Ben  was  signed  following  the  injury  to  Kelvin  Etuhu. He  was  a  former  England  schoolboy  international  who  had  been  on  Manchester  United's  books  but  made  his  League  debut  on  loan  at  Doncaster  in  October  2002. Later  that  season  he  went  to  Bradford  on  a  free  transfer. His  time  at  Bradford  was  marked  by  big  fluctuations  in  form  in  a  turbulent  time  for  the  club  with  Ben  in  favour  under  some  managers  but  not  others. He  had  made  111  appearances  scoring  4  goals  by  the  time  he  came  to  us.

Ben  made  an  instant  impression  by  scoring  on  his  debut  at  Notts  County. He  had  speed  and  skill  if  not  always  the  best  end  product. His  best  game  was  in  the  rout  of  Stockport  where  he  scored  two  of  our  seven  goals. He  was  recalled  by  Bradford  before  the  end  of  the  season  and  played  once  more  for  them  in  their  final  fixture.

He  was  released  in  the  summer  and  Keith  Hill  wasted  no  time  in  signing  him  up  permanently. Unfortunately  Ben  never  really  found  the  form  of  the  previous  season  with  the  particularly  bad  habit  of  giving  the  ball  away. He  lost  his  place  in  the  side to  Kallum  Higginbotham  and  nearly  half  of  his  games  were  as  a  substitute. However  he  did  have  one  more  moment  of  glory  and  it  was  a  big  one  - scoring  the  winning  penalty  against  Darlington  to  take  us  to  Wembley. His  last  appearance  for  us  was  an  unmemorable  substitute  appearance  in  the  Final.

Despite  his  hero  staus  he  was  transfer-listed  then  a  few  weeks  later  negotiated  his   release  making  a  deluded  statement  about  wanting  to  play  at  a  higher  level. In  the  real  world  he  failed  a  trial  at  Darlington  and  ended  up  signing  for  his  former  manager  Nicky  Law  at  Alfreton  Town. He  spent  a  year  there  but  had  to  leave  because  the  club  couldn't  afford  to  pay  him  while  he  recovered  from  an  operation. Since  then  he's  been  a  nomad  with  short  spells  at  Farsley  Celtic, King's  Lynn, Harrogate, Buxton  and  currently  Armthorpe  Welfare.
