386 Morike Sako

Position : Forward

Played : 2006-07

Appearances : 17

Goals : 3

Morike  was  signed  at  the  end  of  August  in  anticipation  of  Rickie  Lambert's  departure. He  was  a  free  agent  after  being  released  by  Torquay  in  the  summer. The  Frenchman  started  playing  in  his  home  country  for  US D'Ivry  but  later  moved  to  SR Delemont  in  Switzerland. He  was  one  of  three  French  players  signed  by  Torquay  manager  Leroy  Rosenior  in  the  summer  of  2005  but  it  didn't  work  and  Morike  was  transfer-listed  by  October. However  Rosenior  was  sacked  and  Morike  was  re-instated  by new  manager  Ian  Atkins. He  was  released  at  the  end  of  the  season  having  scored  3  goals  in  27  appearances. Before  arriving  at  Spotland  Morike  had  trials  with  Bristol  City  and  Blackpool  both  of  whom were  fairly  disparaging  about  him.

Morike  actually  preferred  to  play  in  midfield  as  a  would-be  Patrick  Vieira  but  at  6'7  Parkin  wanted  him  upfront. For  the  first  month  Morike  was  actually  OK  showing  the  odd  bit  of  skill  for  a  big  guy. He  scored  the  only  goal  in  our  first  victory  of  the  season  at  home  to  Grimsby  and  then  two  in  the  5-0  win  at  Darlington. All  three  goals  were  scored  with  his  feet  because  Morike  shared  Paul  Williams's  inability  to  get  off  the  ground. He  was  no  good  at  all  as  a  target  man  and  the  rest  of  his  game  wasn't  good  enough  to  compensate. He  also  started  looking  lazy  and  disinterested  after  his  initial  efforts  to  impress. Keith  Hill  never  played  him  but  kept  him  around  for  a  week  or  so  to  translate  for  William  Mocquet  before  letting  him  go  in  December  2006.

Since  leaving  Rochdale  Morike  has  played  in  Germany  first  for  St  Pauli  and  now  Arminia  Bielefield.
