After six years of Wayne Evans as an automatic selection Parkin now had the problem of finding a replacement. His preferred candidate one Nathan Stanton opted for another year at Scunthorpe instead. That left us with Gary Brown who wasn't really up to it or Jamie Clarke who was better employed elsewhere. The transfer window in the meantime closed so we had to go for a free agent. Warren was kicking his heels after being released from Cambridge when they were relegated to the Conference in 2005. The 28-year old South African already had form in that respect having been part of the Barnet side relegated in 2001. He made 93 appearances for Barnet and scored 3 goals in 5 years there and 103 appearances over 4 seasons at Cambridge.
Warren was another dud signing. Some called him "The Regulator" in reference to 90s rapper Warren G but we preferred the more succint "Badhind". Warren picked up 5 yellow cards in his short career with us, two in the same game at Wycombe where he received his marching orders for petulantly pulling an opponent's ponytail. There was the odd good cross or covering clearance but he never managed a convincing performance.
After 10 games he was out of the side and it later transpired that there was a clause in his contract entitling him to more goodies if he played another game. As he'd already been given a two-year contract despite no one else wanting him , the mind boggled at what more we'd promised this mediocre player. He saw out the season on loan at Oxford where he made it a hat-trick of relegations to the Conference.
He returned to Rochdale in the summer but the club had no intention of allowing the trigger clause to take effect and kept him in the reserves. Keith Hill persuaded him to depart.
Warren turned up again at Ebbsfleet United in the summer of 2007 and has since played for Harwich Borough and currently, Eastleigh.
