337 Mikael Antoine-Courier

Position : Forward

Played : 2003-04

Appearances : 8

Goals : 1

A young French striker, Mikael joined us in September after a solitary week at Kidderminster. He came to England at the tender age of 18 and signed for Preston in 2001 but quickly moved on to Nottingham Forest. He made his League debut on loan at Brentford (11 apps and 3 goals) but was released in 2003 without making a first team appearance. Then his travels began. He started the season at Oldham and scored twice in 8 appearances but wasn’t taken on and moved on to Kidderminster for one game.
With none of our strikers in particularly good form Mikael went straight into the side away at Lincoln and got off to a great start with a volleyed goal in the first half. Like Clive Platt before him he had height and pace with an added touch of Gallic guile. In the next two games he set up Chris Shuker’s goal at Macclesfield and won the penalty at home to Scunthorpe (though he was twice dissuaded from taking it). From that point on he seemed to completely lose interest , was dropped to the bench and then sent on his way.

He went to Sheffield Wednesday having scored against them for Oldham but moved on after a single substitute appearance. Next stop was Notts County who were reasonably impressed but after four appearances and one goal he was sent packing after being caught partying the night before a game. Grimsby became his sixth club of the season but he failed to score in 5 appearances. He spent the next three seasons in Norway first with Vard Haugesund where he won the Norwegian golden boot with 33 goals in 37 appearances then their neighbours FK Haugesund where his record was 15 in 39. That led to a trial with Hibs in 2007 who signed him for a year after he scored 4 in a pre-season friendly. He scored 3 goals in 13 appearances but couldn’t hold down a regular place and went to Dundee on loan later in the season. Eight goals in 11 appearances won him a three year contract there but he was loaned out to Hamilton for the 2009-10 season (7 goals in 26 appearances) and then released when Dundee went into administration in October 2010 having scored 14 goals in 32 appearances. Mikael was injured at the time and was without a club until he re-signed for Hamilton in January this year and to date he has scored 3 in 11 appearances.

In  2008  Mikael  gave  up  on  the  idea  of  playing  for  France  and  agreed  to  play  for  Guadeloupe  instead. To  date  he  has  scored  6  goals  in  13  appearances.
